Baby Shower Gifts: Hospital Emergency KIt

Spring is here, and it seems like there are always lot's of new babies in the Spring!  I have two good friends expecting in May, and over the next month or so I will be sharing some of the little projects that I have put together for them.

Baby showers always have such CUTE gifts and I'm starting to try to gift something unique, creative AND useful!

Quite a while ago, I stumbled across these fantastic Hospital Survival Kit (free) printables from My Own Road, and I couldn't wait to use them!

The original concept used the printables on a gift bag, but I decided to repurpose a small white square gift box for the occasion.

Since I'm sure you're curious about what I put inside, here are the specifics:

(+) Change for the parking meter
(+) Mouthwash
(+) Toothpaste & travel-sized toothbrush
(+) Hair elastics
(+) Gum
(+) (not pictured) Gift card for the hospital coffee shop (because hospital food is not good)

Some of these things may seem like common-sense items for mom-to-be to pack in her hospital bag, but interestingly, I actually FORGOT my toothbrush during my baby's birth.

The whole box can just be added right to the hospital bag, and mom-to-be can be worry free for some of the essentials!

You could also create this as a gift for any friend or family member who will be staying in the hospital - putting your own spin on it and including some of their favourite things.

Thanks to My Own Road for creating such a great set of printables!  Be sure to visit the blog to print your own!

Inspired Wrapping: Flower Tag Tutorial

I'm very pleased to have Laura from Cupcakes for Clara provide you with a lovely guest post today - an easy and simple DIY flower tag.  Laura is helping me continue to bring you inspired content while I am in the final stages of finishing my Master's thesis!  Many thanks to you Laura.

Materials

White card stock
Pretty patterned paper
Cotton thread in a contrasting colour to patterned paper
Small beads to match cotton
Thin ribbon
Thin needle
Hole punch
Scissors / craft knife
Glue / double-sided tape

Instructions

1. Copy and cut out the pattern pieces below.  Cut two tag shapes from the white card stock and one flower shape from the patterned paper.

2. Glue the flower to one of the tags. Asymmetrically embroider the flower to the tag, first by carefully making holes through the card with the needle before threading the cotton.

3. Sew three beads onto the centre of the flower and add a few line details, as shown in the picture.

4. Using glue or double-sided tape carefully line up and attach the second tag to the back of the first, covering up the backside of the stitching.

5. Punch a hole in the top of the tag and loop through a ribbon.

I love it, don't you?  We'd love to hear your feedback on this tutorial.  Happy Gifting!

Nature-Inspired Gift Toppers

It has been a little while since I shared any kind of wrapping inspiration - and since Spring is just around the corner, I thought this would be a wonderful time to share this simple and pretty gift-topper!

To make this lovely gift topper:

(+) Gather together some pussy willows in a bouquet-like shape
(in my opinion, they are perfect, they last forever, and the recipient can keep them in a vase afterwards).

(+) Wrap the bottom of the "bouquet"with some japanese washi tape to hold everything together.

(+) Tie everything together with a soft ribbon in a similar print as the washi tape.

These little bouquets would also make lovely wedding centrepieces/favours.  Simply group small bouquets in little glass bud vases, tie a little tag to each one and you have lovely, simple wedding decor + a thoughtful take home favour for each guest!

I have been playing around with the idea of making these into wedding bouquets as well.  Don't you think it would be so simple + beautiful for a Spring or Summer wedding?

Have an inspired Friday!

Birthday Wishes - Free Printable

Having a little girl who will soon be turning ONE, means that a lot of her new friends are also turning ONE - many upcoming birthday parties!

So many parties equals a lot of gifts.  If you have been following me for a while, you already know that my gifting philosophy is less about STUFF and more about creative, thoughtful gestures.

I had previously spotted this lovely "wishes for baby" card created by Lauren Makes (intended for a baby shower) and I decided to design something similar for first birthdays to use as gifts.

Here's how to use the First Birthday Wishes Printables.
(+) Try to find out in advance approximately how many people will be at the birthday party.
(+) Print off and cut out as many birthday wishes cards as necessary (plus a few extra)
(+) Package up the cards in a nice keepsake box & include a pen
(+) Add a little note explaining your gift
(+) Have everyone at the party fill out a birthday wishes card -  all of the "birthday wishes" can be kept inside the box for the birthday boy or girl to treasure for a lifetime!

You can download the first birthday wishes card (blue + airplane version) here.

A special little surprise!

I wanted to do something a little fun and "outside the box" with my review.  It came to me one morning in a FLASH!  Wouldn't it be fun if Clara travelled?  I mean, here she is, with me, in CANADA - she should see some sights!

CLARA'S TRAVELS

So where in the world in Clara right now?  She's visiting her new friend Alison (me), in Canada's most Easterly Province - Newfoundland and Labrador. Here's it is on the map!

Clara is visiting St. John's, the Capital City of Newfoundland and Labrador, and it's Winter, so I figured it would be most fitting for her to wear her Winter outfits for this visit!

Here's Clara in front of some of the famous colourful row houses in downtown St. John's

Clara visits Cabot Tower, on the top of Signal Hill.  It was a beautiful sunny day, but quite windy.  In fact, her winter hat blew away. Grumpy, grumpy, grumpy.

Do you have your very own Clara doll?  JOIN IN

I would love to see where in the world Clara is visiting.

(+) Take some photos of your Clara doll in your hometown (or anywhere you happen to be visiting)
(+) Show us something unique and interesting
(+) Post the photos of Clara (blog, Web site, Instagram etc.) and then share the link with us!!
(+) In the Name section, please write "Clara visits {location}".
